Daiwa Laguna 100HS Review

As I write this Daiwa Laguna review, it brings back a lot of memories. My very first baitcaster was a Daiwa, though I can’t remember the model, only that it was a low-priced entry level reel. I loved it!

I backlashed it like crazy at first but when I got it down it turned out to be my favorite go-to reel even after buying other reels later.

Ok, enough about the old days and on to this new Daiwa Laguna 100hs.

After all the years of Daiwa’s great engineering and technological advances their reels for the most part look similar to their reels of years past. One thing definitely stayed the same. They still have a great feel, are smooth casting and the Magforce cast control is awesome!

I love the fact that the Daiwa Laguna comes in both a 6.3:1 and a super fast 7.1:1 gear ratio to handle almost all situations perfectly. I’ve already touched on it but the Magforce cast control allows you to completely dial in the reel to suit your casting style perfectly.

lagunaIt has a lightweight composite frame and side plates and sports 6 super smooth bearings (5 ball bearings and 1 roller bearing) for effortless casting for a reel at this price point. The swept handles with soft touch grips are also a big plus.

  • Brand new re-designed lightweight composite frame and side plate
  • 90mm Swept Handle for less wobble, better feel and winding power
  • I-Shape soft touch handle knob
  • 6 Bearing System (5BB + 1RB)
  • Magforce Cast Control
  • Composite easy adjust star drag

I was surprised to find out that the Laguna weighs in at 7.7 ounces because it really feels lighter than that. Still, you can cast this reel all day because of its low profile and easy to palm feel in your hand.  This makes a huge difference.

The Laguna 100hs comes with a one year warranty on parts and service.

The best part about the Daiwa Laguna baitcaster may be the price point for all the features that are included. This reel is under $70 but I’ve found them for less than $50 on Amazon! For a reel with these features that’s a steal.

Is The Daiwa Laguna 100hs Worth It?

This is a great reel for the average angler and also for the beginning baitcast fisherman. With its swept handle, smooth casting and high speed gear ratios, the Daiwa Laguna 100hs is a great baitcasting reel for the money and we highly recommend it.
